Winter Storage Guide for Robotic Mowers

Brand-specific tips for Sunseeker, Segway Navimow, and Husqvarna included at the end.

As the mowing season winds down, winter storage is important to extend the life of your robotic mower, protect its electronics, and ensure peak performance when spring arrives. The right process looks slightly different for each brand, but the fundamentals remain the same. Below is a clear approach to winter storage, followed by tailored guidance for Sunseeker Robotics , Segway Navimow and Husqvarna USA users.

General Winter Storage Guidelines Every Robotic Mower Owner Should Follow:

A methodical winter prep prevents battery degradation, moisture damage, rust, or spring mapping issues.

1. Preparing the Charging Base

  • Remove only the tower of the charging base and bring the tower + power transformer indoors.
  • Avoid removing the entire charging plate as it will disrupt your mapping and cause unnecessary setup work in spring.
  • Clean the tower to remove debris and store in a dry space.

2. Protecting the RTK Antenna

  • Unplug power to the RTK antenna.
  • If exposed to snow, you can place an insulated cover on top for protection.

3. Pre-Storage Cleaning & Battery Care

  • Fully charge the mower to 100%. Turn it off before storage.
  • Remove cutting discs and blades, then thoroughly clean underneath and on top.
  • Let the mower dry completely before storing.
  • Install new blades and reattach the discs.
  • Clean behind the bump sensor and vacuum any accumulated debris.
  • Optional but helpful: disconnect the battery after flipping and opening the battery compartment.

4. Spring Start-Up Checklist

  • Reconnect the battery (if disconnected) and turn the mower ON.
  • Place the charging tower back on its plate.
  • Power on the RTK station and allow 10–15 minutes for stabilization.
  • Run a quick system check to ensure all components are operational.

These steps alone prevent 90% of early-season service calls related to moisture, mapping, or battery issues. That said, different manufacturers build their systems with slightly different tolerances and installation requirements, please see below for brand-specific winter storage instructions.

SUNSEEKER: WINTER STORAGE ESSENTIALS

Cleaning

  • Ensure screws are tight and the rain sensor is correctly seated before cleaning.
  • Use a regular hose. Avoid spraying directly at the camera, display, or under the camera cover, and don’t use a pressure washer.
  • Clean wheels, cutting discs, and deck thoroughly (use protective gloves).

Battery & Storage

  • Fully charge, then turn off the mower before storing.
  • If equipped with a 4G tracking module, it will automatically shut down after 10 days.
  • Store indoors in a dry, frost-free environment, preferably in original packaging.

Charging Station

  • Must remain outside in the exact same position to avoid remapping in spring.
  • You may unplug the power adapter and store it inside; cover the exposed connector outdoors.

RTK Antenna

  • Can remain outside if permanently powered on to avoid condensation.
  • Or remove and store in a dry space.

Maintenance Tip:Charge every 3–4 months during winter to protect battery health.

SEGWAY NAVIMOW: STORAGE, CHARGING & RE-INSTALLATION TIPS

Battery Charging

  • Charge to at least 85%, then power off.
  • For long winters, bring the mower and station out every 120 days and recharge.

Charging Station Removal

  • Unplug, unscrew, and remove the charging station.
  • Use the 4 silicone pegs to mark the station’s exact location to avoid mapping issues next season.
  • Disconnect the antenna cable and leave pegs in the ground.

Antenna Handling

  • Preferably leave the bottom part of the antenna in place.
  • If the full antenna must stay outdoors (e.g., wall/roof-mounted), cover it with a weatherproof bag.

Cleaning

  • Remove blades with gloves.
  • Brush the underside, hose off dirt, and let the mower dry fully.

Storage

  • Store mower, antenna, charging station, and cables indoors in a frost-free location between 5°C and 45°C (41°F – 113°F).

HUSQVARNA AUTOMOWER: COMPLETE DIY WINTER PREP CHECKLIST

Before You Begin

  • Leave your lawn slightly longer (6–8 cm) at the end of the season, this protects root structure over winter.
  • Fully charge the mower and switch it off.
  • If using GeoFence:

Cleaning & Inspection

  • Deep clean the mower and charging station: body, chassis, blade disc. Replace blades and screws to prevent rust and ensure sharp cutting next season.
  • Inspect wheel bearings, disc, body panels, and charging contacts for corrosion or wear.

Storage Setup

  • Disconnect the power supply and store indoors.
  • Organize and label wires using an Automower Connector Box.
  • Store mower in a dry, above-freezing environment, resting on all wheels or using a wall hanger.
  • For NERA models: only the top of the charging station needs to be stored indoors.
