Cleaning Automowers

Cleaning Automowers

Cleaning Frequency

As Automower works hard for your yard in sun or rain, it is bound to collect dirt and grass under its hood and on the wheels, blades etc. Depending on how frequently the mower runs in a day, it is recommended to dry clean the mower to keep all its parts move freely without any hindrance. The table below is an estimate of how frequently you may need to clean the mower, based on the number of hours it runs per week.

If mower is not cleaned regularly, it can lead to incorrect sensor readings, imbalance in cutting disc, imbalanced wheels, increased friction in cutting or moving etc. These things can impact its performance and decrease the life span of the mower.

No. of Runtime Hours per Week

Cleaning Frequency

More than 60 hours a week

Every 7-10 days

Between 60 and 40 hours a week

Once in 2 weeks

Less than 40 hours a week

Once in 3 weeks

The table shown above is just for reference and the cleaning frequency needed may be less or more depending on the kind of yard the mower must mow, especially if there are increased chances of the mower passing through muddy patches, then the frequency of cleaning is usually on the higher side.

Cleaning Process

The following steps must be followed when you are ready to clean the Automower,

Step 1: Ensure that the mower is dry and there is no water dripping from the Automower’s under carriage

Step 2: Place the mower in a dry area and set the main switch to off [ 0 position]. Make sure that you use gloves to protect your hands from any injuries.

Step 3: Next, carefully remove the top body of the mower to expose the Chassis. The body is fitted to the chassis using 4 quick-mounted, Snap-On brackets (3 brackets in case of the 315 series). The charging cable fastened to the body's charging strip must be disconnected to be able to remove the body entirely from the chassis.

  1. Ensure that the main switch is in 0 position.
  2. Clean the area around the grommet for the charging cable found at the very front under the mower using the provided dry brush.
  3. Pull out the rubber grommet on the charging cable and carefully loosen the connector.
  4. Loosen the body from the chassis by lifting the body one corner at a time while holding the chassis in place. While doing so, be careful about not pulling the top cover too hard as it can damage the cables that are connected between the chassis and the cover for headlights, charging pins, sensors etc.

Step 4: Use the provided brush to carefully remove any debris or cut grass that may be on the chassis and under the body of the mower. Clean the areas around the mounts that hold the body. This is important because these mounts move mechanically and detect collision when the mower hits an obstacle.

Step 5: While the body of the mower is not connected to the chassis, you can clean the body with water and cloth.

Step 6: Finally clean the underside of the mower and its wheels with the dry brush without spraying any water. Ensure that the cutting disc is cleaned thoroughly and there are no residues on any side of the disc.

Never use a high-pressure washer or even running water

Step 7: Once the chassis and the outer cover are cleaned with dry brush and a damp cloth, the cables can be connected, and the body can be put back on the chassis. To place the body back, just align the body with the chassis, such that the 4 (3 in case of 315 models) snapping mounts are aligned with the anchors. Once aligned, gently press each corner of the mower, to fix the body.

Finally, the outer body of the Automower can be cleaned with the cleaning solution that is provided with the SmartDots Troubleshooting and Maintenance kit. To do so, simply spray the solution on the Automower and wipe dry with the provided Fiber Cloth.
